Pamela Drake, Ph.D. - Senior Research Associate

Dr. Pam (Jakwerth) Drake received her Master’s degree in Educational Counseling from the University of San Diego, and her Ph.D. from Michigan State University in Measurement and Quantitative Methods, with minors in statistics and human development. Her current research interests are in the area of child development and child care as well as evaluation of childhood obesity-prevention programs and other health education and risk reduction programs. She has strong skills in both qualitative and quantitative research, evaluation design, and measurement. Her work has included researching the needs of family, friend, and neighbor child caregivers in California; evaluating a variety of health education programs related to nutrition and physical fitness, tobacco use reduction and cessation, violence prevention, and HIV prevention; and evaluating educator preparation programs and statewide policy initiatives. Her previous experience includes work at the American Institutes for Research where she led or co-led various research projects related to assessment in regular and special education. She was also a Senior Researcher on the Third International Mathematics and Science Study, where she analyzed teachers' instructional practices and student performance assessment results.
